Student Tours

Our educational tour is designed to create an exciting and interactive experience for students of all ages. Students explore over 16+ authentic and beautifully restored 19th century buildings while experiencing Arizona’s mining history during the town’s booming gold rush of 1863-1942. The tour covers many intriguing topics and stories about gold mining in Vulture City. Some examples include:

  • How gold was processed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Comparing the 19th century mining process to what can be seen of the modern day gold mining process on the property bordering our historic site.

  • Where the average miner lived, how much they earned and some of the daily expenses of living in Vulture City.

  • As the first and most prolific gold mine in Arizona, Vulture Gold Mine had over 20 miles of mining tunnels, shafts and raises. Students can stand directly over and peer down one of our original 170 foot deep mineshafts from a grated viewing platform.

  • Students can also visit with our resident Blacksmith with live demonstrations at our working forge.

Tours are customizable in length and subject. Plan for about a 45 minute tour with a break for restrooms and snacks or lunch with activities and or demonstrations following. In total, plan for about 2 hours.
